A Family-Friendly SoCal Home That’s Netflix-Worthy

It’s easy to see why Southern California is popular among families and outdoor enthusiasts. With miles of sandy beaches and a more relaxed atmosphere than nearby downtown Los Angeles, it’s a family-friendly enclave with eclectic charm.

This is perhaps why the homeowners of a recently completed project there prioritized their family when it came time to create their dream property.

Architect Hart Howerton teamed up with innovative interior designers at Studio McGee to bring the couple’s vision to life. The former mid-century modern ranch-style home was leveled to make way for a more contemporary house with large windows that celebrate indoor-outdoor living.

The home’s interior and exterior paving was an integral part of the property’s design so it was paramount to get the stonework right.

"The homeowners wanted something reclaimed but modern,” Ashley Gibson Partridge, Maiden Stone’s Architectural Stone Consultant, said.
“The color tone was really important for this project. They wanted a mix of warm and gray tones, and the final design reflects just that.”

The project features Ancien Limestone, a newly quarried stone that has the look and presence of a centuries old stone.

The project, which kicked off in 2018, was completed in 2020. It was featured on Netflix: “The Dream in Dream Home” episode of Studio McGee’s Dream Home Makeover (Season 3, Episode 3) in late 2022.
